UN allocates $75 million for life-saving aid to 507,000 people in Haiti
The Haiti Humanitarian Fund will support 10 projects across 28 priority communes in the Ouest, Centre and Artibonite departments.
PORT-AU-PRINCE — The Haiti Humanitarian Fund (HHF) has allocated a further US$75 million to help humanitarian partners respond to urgent needs caused by escalating violence, displacement and the disruption of essential services, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). The allocation, announced on 12 October 2026, will support 10 projects in 28 priority communes in the Ouest, Centre and Artibonite departments, providing emergency assistance to 507,000 people. A portion of the funding goes directly to three consortia of Haitian national and local NGOs, including one led by a coalition with women in leadership at the center of the protection response. OCHA said the funds will provide food, safe drinking water, health care and emergency shelter, along with protection for women and children, medical and psychosocial support for survivors of sexual violence, treatment for children with acute malnutrition, and assistance for people with disabilities. The allocation includes US$4.5 million for a rapid response mechanism. Humanitarian Coordinator Nicole Kouassi thanked the United States, which fully funded this allocation. An estimated 6.4 million people in Haiti need humanitarian assistance and nearly 6 million face acute food insecurity, while violence has displaced almost 1.5 million people. The 2026 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan, seeking $880 million, is currently 49 per cent funded.
