ABU DHABI — The United Arab Emirates is providing US$10 million in urgent humanitarian assistance to Haiti through the Emirates Red Crescent Authority (ERC), according to a statement carried by the state news agency WAM on 12 September 2026 and reported by outlets including The National, Trinidad Times and Jamaican Times. The aid was directed under President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, with follow-up by Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, chairman of the ERC. According to the statement, the assistance programme includes essential food supplies, shelter materials, health services, water, sanitation and hygiene support, along with medicines, medical supplies and equipment. It aims to address the needs of internally displaced people and the most vulnerable groups. The ERC said it has completed preparations to implement the programme, with a first phase focused on urgent requirements in food, shelter, health, water and sanitation. The relief effort will be coordinated with UAE missions abroad, international organisations and humanitarian partners. The announcement comes as Haiti faces a worsening crisis driven by escalating violence, insecurity and the deterioration of essential services. Latest international data cited in the reports indicate that over one million people are internally displaced, around half of them children, while millions face food insecurity and require urgent assistance.
