U.S. Embassy Flags Yellow Alert as Heavy Rain Threatens Five Haitian Departments
Civil Protection warns of possible flooding and landslides across the South, Southeast and West through Monday.
The U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince issued a weather alert on October 23, 2026, relaying that Haiti's Directorate of Civil Protection has declared a Yellow Alert for heavy rainfall affecting five departments in the South, Southeast and West, according to ht.usembassy.gov. Rainfall amounts could reach 50 to 100 millimeters, roughly 2 to 4 inches, over the weekend and through Monday, the Embassy said. Combined with strong winds, the conditions could cause flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas. The Embassy advised that additional weather information may be available from the World Meteorological Organization and Haiti's Directorate of Civil Protection. It noted that the Embassy remains open for emergency services and can be reached at Tabarre 41, Route de Tabarre, +509-2229-8000, or acspap@state.gov. The notice follows a separate security alert issued by the Embassy on October 21, 2026. The State Department also reiterated its Worldwide Caution advising Americans to exercise increased caution. Officials urged residents in affected areas to monitor official channels and take precautions against potential flooding and landslides during the rainfall period.
