At least four people have died and two others are missing after heavy rains battered Haiti since the weekend, according to a report from the General Directorate of Civil Protection (DGPC) cited by Le Nouvelliste and Caribbean National Weekly. The provisional toll, released Monday, October 26, 2026, also records three injured and 3,209 families affected. The deaths include one in the Sud, two in the Nippes and one in the Grand'Anse, authorities said. Two fishermen remain missing. The DGPC said a weather system has persisted over the Greater Antilles since Saturday, triggering intense rainfall across the country. A total of 21 communes have been affected. The agency reported that 2,130 houses in the Nippes, Grand'Anse, Sud and Ouest departments have been flooded, while 847 homes have been destroyed and another 219 damaged. Several rivers have overflowed in Nippes, and four in the Sud, with flooding reported in the town center of Baradères. Roads have been cut and communications remain difficult, while significant agricultural losses have been recorded. The Hydro-Meteorological Unit (UHM), coordinating with the DGPC and SPGRD, placed Grand'Anse, Sud, Nippes, Sud-Est and Ouest under orange alert, and Artibonite and Nord-Ouest under yellow alert. The DGPC said it is gradually opening temporary shelters.
