Intense thunderstorm and rainfall activity has caused significant damage across several Haitian departments, authorities said at a press conference led by Public Works Minister (MTPTC) Joseph Almathe Pierre Louis, according to icihaiti.com. The minister spoke in coordination with the Minister of Public Health, the Director of Civil Protection, the Chief of Staff of the Ministry for the Status of Women, and the coordinator of Haiti's Hydro-Meteorological Unit (UHM). Officials clarified that, per the UHM, the weather is not a hurricane but intense rain and storm activity. While most regions reported no major emergencies, the Greater South, Grand'Anse and Northwest faced significant difficulties. In the West, runoff carried sediment and debris in Tijo and Tabarre. Near Les Cayes, riverbank sections collapsed at the Antoine Simon and Brefèt ravines, and in Tiburon the road was cut off at Tapion. A significant landslide hit National Road No. 7 at Katisch in Grand'Anse, since cleared, while in the Northwest the Three Rivers washed away part of National Road No. 5 near Rozye and Degason. For Monday, October 26, 2026, orange alerts were in effect for Grand'Anse, South, Nippes, Southeast and West, with yellow alerts for Northwest and Artibonite. Authorities urged extreme caution near flood- and landslide-prone areas.
