At least four people have died and two fishermen are missing after heavy rains and flooding struck Haiti's South, Nippes and Grand'Anse departments since 24 October 2026, according to a UN OCHA flash update published on 28 October. Three of the deaths were reported in Nippes and one in the South-East, while two fishermen are missing in Abricots, Grand'Anse. The figures are drawn from situation reports by the Departmental Committee for Risk and Disaster Management of Grand'Anse, the Departmental Directorates of Civil Protection of Nippes and the South, and a 26 October report by Entraide Médicale Internationale. Nippes is the hardest hit, with 1,767 houses flooded, 48 small houses destroyed and 1,920 families affected. In Grand'Anse, 630 houses were flooded and four were washed away in Gommiers, while the Corail community hospital, the Fond'Icaques national school and the Chambellan public market were inundated. In the South, about 200 houses were flooded in Les Cayes, where sections of the Ravine du Sud dykes collapsed. The Directorate General of Civil Protection placed the entire Grand Sud on orange alert. Agricultural and livestock losses were reported in a region already affected by drought, and displaced families have taken refuge with relatives, in schools and in a church in Baradères. OCHA said the information remains preliminary.
