Severe weather has caused significant damage across several departments of Haiti, authorities said at a press conference led by Public Works Minister Joseph Almathe Pierre Louis (MTPTC), coordinating with the Ministry of Public Health, Civil Protection, the Ministry for the Status of Women and the Hydro-Meteorological Unit (UHM), according to icihaiti.com. The UHM clarified the event is not a hurricane but intense thunderstorm and rainfall activity. Officials said the Greater South, Grand'Anse and Northwest are facing the most difficulties. In the West, heavy rain carried sediment and debris in the Tijo and Tabarre areas. Near Les Cayes, riverbank sections collapsed at the Antoine Simon and Brefèt ravines, damaging roads, while in Tiburon the road is cut off at Tapion. In Grand'Anse, a major landslide struck National Road No. 7 at Katisch but was cleared by MTPTC teams. In the Northwest, the Twa Rivyè washed away part of National Road No. 5 near Rozye and Degason. For Monday, October 26, 2026, the UHM forecast continued rain and thunderstorms, with an orange alert for Grand'Anse, South, Nippes, Southeast and West, and a yellow alert for Northwest and Artibonite. Residents were urged to avoid crossing rising waterways.
