CSPJ meets with justices of the peace over court operations
Haiti's judicial oversight body discussed daily challenges facing peace courts in Port-au-Prince and other jurisdictions.
The Conseil Supérieur du Pouvoir Judiciaire (CSPJ) held talks on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, with sitting justices of the peace from the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area, along with those from other jurisdictions who participated remotely, according to Le Nouvelliste.
Citing a CSPJ statement, the newspaper reported that discussions focused on the difficulties encountered daily in peace courts, including the reception of litigants, the management of case files and registers, the functioning of court clerks' offices, and a shortage of supplies and equipment.
The CSPJ said it intends to support the jurisdictions in finding solutions and called on judges to strengthen administrative follow-up in order to provide a judicial service that is more accessible, transparent and efficient, according to the report.
The meeting comes amid broader activity by the judicial oversight body, which recently certified 119 magistrates and found 17 non-certified after reviewing 159 files, Le Nouvelliste noted. No further details on specific measures or timelines were provided in the source.
