Haiti Sends 20 Trainers to France for Penal Reform Program

Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé presided on Monday, August 31, at the Villa d'Accueil over a ceremony held in honor of twenty Haitian trainers ahead of their departure for France, according to Le Nouvelliste, citing a statement from the Primature. The delegation is made up of lawyers, magistrates and other professionals of the penal chain, and will undergo specialized training in France as part of the implementation of Haiti's penal reform, the statement said. Upon their return to Haiti, the twenty trainers will be tasked with passing on the skills acquired to other actors in the judicial chain, the Prime Minister's office noted, in order to foster a gradual and lasting implementation of the penal reform across the country's ten jurisdictions. The initiative is presented as a step in advancing the reform of Haiti's criminal justice system. No timeline for the training or the trainers' return was specified in the statement reported by Le Nouvelliste.
