SEMANAH Delivers Maritime Signaling Equipment to Boost Port Navigation Safety
Haiti's maritime service hands over buoyage gear to the National Port Authority as part of a channel-marking project for international and coastal ports.
On Wednesday, October 14, 2026, Patrick Norzéus, Director General of Haiti's Maritime and Navigation Service (SEMANAH), led a delegation to deliver a batch of maritime signaling equipment to the National Port Authority (APN), according to haitilibre.com. The delivery is part of a project to mark the navigation channels of the country's international ports and certain coastal (cabotage) ports. Norzéus said he is determined to continue buoyage work at Haiti's ports, particularly international ports, throughout his tenure, and pledged to work closely with APN officials to make their interventions more effective. He described SEMANAH and the APN as complementary institutions aimed at improving the safety and organization of maritime navigation. APN Director General Eng. Jean Evens Charles expressed satisfaction with SEMANAH's support, saying the APN cannot function normally without the service's collaboration, which he compared to a "road police on the sea" that helps regulate vessel traffic and ensure navigation safety. Norzéus thanked the Prime Minister for the support that allowed SEMANAH to obtain the needed equipment. According to the report, buoyage marks sea navigation channels so vessels can identify the safest route to enter and exit ports day or night, helping reduce the risk of maritime accidents.
