Secretary of State Lucien Jura spoke publicly on the current situation in Haiti, according to haitilibre.com. His remarks followed the announcement of a state of emergency declared until December 18 in the West, Artibonite and Center departments to combat insecurity. The government called on the entire population to remain calm, saying it is fully aware of the need to support citizens in the face of measures that could seem contrary to the public interest. Jura addressed the application, since October 1, of a new tax code integrating various provisions, some concerning the question of a 15% tax. The code came into force on October 1 and contains a set of measures. On the 14th month payment, Jura clarified there will be no 15% levy, but rather the usual 10% levy, with a 5% reduction in the tax rate. As a result, all state civil servants will receive their 14th month. He noted that bonuses and allowances, which fall outside normal salary, are subject to a 15% deduction, according to haitilibre.com.
