Nine Presidential Hopefuls Register for Haiti's Elections, CEP Confirms

At least nine hopefuls have registered so far on the platform of Haiti's Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) to compete for the presidency, though none can yet be considered a definitively approved candidate, according to Diario Libre. The list published by Haitian newspaper Le Nouvelliste on September 23 includes Claude Joseph, running for Les Engagés pour le Développement (EDE); Ricardo Jean-Pierre, for the Parti Nationaliste Haïtien; Gary Bodeau, for the Rekonsilye platform; and Wilson Jeudy, for Vision-Action-Réalisation. Also registered are Wilner Joseph (Viktwa), Jocelerme Privert (Ayiti Transfòme), Maxo Joseph (Réveil des Citoyens Haïtiens), Munir Joseph Mourra (Mobilisation pour le Progrès d'Haïti), and Gandhy Dorfeuille (Ansanm Nou Fò). Diario Libre reports the CEP has extended the deadline for completing online registration and document submission until October 9, meaning the list may grow or change. The electoral body must then review the files and decide which meet the requirements to participate. Among the registered names, former chancellor and interim prime minister Claude Joseph stands out for his documented record of public confrontation with the Dominican Republic. Joseph, who served during the Jovenel Moïse administration, was barred from Dominican territory in 2022, describing the measure as an "honor."
