National Ambulance Center employees demand payment of salary arrears
Workers protested outside the CAN, citing months of unpaid wages and deteriorating conditions.
Employees of Haiti's National Ambulance Center (Centre Ambulancier National, CAN) demonstrated Friday outside the institution's premises to denounce several months of unpaid salaries and worsening working conditions, according to Le Nouvelliste. The protesters, who burned tires during the demonstration, said their contracts have still not been finalized, a situation they contend prevents the regular payment of their wages. According to the workers, some among them are owed more than ten months of back pay. They warned that they may launch a strike if their demands are not met. Le Nouvelliste reported that the protest centered on both the salary arrears and the general degradation of their conditions of employment. As of the report, no official response from CAN management or government authorities regarding the arrears or the status of the contested contracts had been detailed in the coverage.
