MENFP and FAES Sign Accord to Fund 140,000 Parents for School Year
The 'Cash Transfert-Éducation' program will distribute 2.5 billion gourdes to help cover back-to-school costs in disadvantaged areas.
Haiti's Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP) and the Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES) signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday to launch the 'Cash Transfert-Éducation' program, according to Le Nouvelliste. The agreement was signed by MENFP head Vijonet Déméro and FAES Director General Kesner Romilus. According to the MENFP, the mechanism provides an envelope of 2.5 billion gourdes intended for 140,000 parents of students attending national, community, communal and presbyteral schools in disadvantaged areas. Each beneficiary is to receive 15,000 gourdes to ease expenses linked to the start of the school year. The MENFP said operations will be carried out by the FAES on the basis of lists generated by the ministry's SIGE information system. The initiative is part of broader MENFP preparations for the school year, which the ministry has said include the opening of six lycées and nine training centers for the 2026-2027 academic year. No timeline for the distribution of funds was specified in the announcement.
