Martelly Files Presidential Candidacy Documents at BED Ouest 1

Former president Joseph Michel Martelly officially submitted the support documents for his candidacy for the presidency of the Republic on Friday, October 23, 2026, under the banner of the political platform Debloke, Le Nouvelliste reported. The filing took place at the Departmental Electoral Bureau (BED) Ouest 1, located on Route de Frères in Pétion-Ville. According to the outlet, Martelly, who served as Haiti's 56th head of state from May 14, 2011, to February 7, 2016, was accompanied by several lawyers and a crowd of several hundred supporters. Le Nouvelliste described the arrival of the former president among his backers, though further details of the filing were behind the outlet's paywall. The move positions Martelly, a prominent and polarizing figure in Haitian politics, as a contender in the country's electoral process. No additional information on the timeline, other candidates, or the electoral calendar was provided in the available source excerpt.
