Haiti Unveils Electricity Sector Development Plan Backed by IDB
ANARSE publishes a strategic roadmap built around six regional grids and expanded solar power.
On Friday, October 30, 2026, Haiti's National Energy Sector Regulatory Authority (ANARSE) announced the publication of the Electricity Sector Development Plan for Haiti, according to haitilibre.com. The plan was developed under the Program for Improving Access to Electricity in Haiti (AMACEH), overseen by the Ministry of Public Works (MTPTC) and financed with support from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
The strategic planning document sets out a structured and progressive vision for the national electricity sector, offering technical, economic, and institutional guidelines aimed at improving access to electricity, strengthening infrastructure reliability, and supporting the country's economic and social growth, the source reported.
According to ANARSE, the plan is based primarily on the development of six regional electricity grids, supplemented by mini-grids and solar home systems for isolated areas. It also advocates greater integration of renewable energy, specifically solar power combined with battery storage, alongside an investment schedule tailored to the actual evolution of demand.
Beyond infrastructure, the document emphasizes strengthening the institutional and regulatory framework, improving governance, and mobilizing funding to ensure the sector's long-term sustainability. ANARSE said publishing the plan aims to promote transparency and a better understanding of proposed strategies. The full 149-page document is available in French.
