Haiti Sets First Round of Elections for July 18, 2027
The Provisional Electoral Council published a revised calendar postponing the country's first presidential vote in a decade.
PORT-AU-PRINCE — Haiti's Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) published a revised electoral calendar on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, setting the first round of elections for July 18, 2027, according to Le Nouvelliste and Reuters. The move postpones what would be Haiti's first presidential election in a decade. The council had previously planned a first-round presidential vote for December 13 before announcing it was reviewing its schedule, Reuters reported. Under the new calendar, the second round of the presidential and legislative elections is set for October 4, 2027, with the names of all newly elected officials to be known by October 23, 2027. The CEP said it will update its voter registration software and run electoral operations from October 19, 2026, through September 28, 2027, according to Le Nouvelliste. The announcement follows a period described as two years without any elections. Earlier in October, former President Michel Martelly registered to run for president, Reuters reported, with supporters gathering in Port-au-Prince on October 23. The CEP said it was satisfied with its record as it moves toward the delayed vote.
