Haiti's Government Unveils Support Measures for School Year

The government of Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé presented a package of support measures for the new school year during a press briefing held at the Primature, according to Le Nouvelliste. The event brought together several officials, including Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Marc Elie Nelson, FAES Director General Kesner Romilus, National Education Fund (FNE) Director General Jefnie Toussaint, and Public Works Minister Joseph Almathe Pierre-Louis. Authorities described the measures as 'concrete steps designed to ease the economic burden on parents, improve learning conditions for students and guarantee a safer school year across the national territory.' According to Le Nouvelliste, the government announced financial support for 130,000 parents of schoolchildren, as well as 30,000 vulnerable families, through a joint effort by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor (MAST), the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP) and the FNE. Officials also outlined plans to rehabilitate 52 national schools and lycées, build and inaugurate new establishments, distribute 8,000 pieces of school furniture, and reinforce support for school canteens. The reporting further noted that psychosocial accompaniment is planned for students. The school year is expected to begin September 7.
