Haiti's Sports Minister Pythagore Dumas announced Thursday a project to build two FIFA-compliant football stadiums so the national team can play its matches at home, after years of being unable to do so due to insecurity, according to Telemundo PR and EFE via El Día. Dumas said funds for the two stadiums — one in the north and one in the south — are allocated in the 2026-2027 budget, citing local media. Last Saturday he visited the Parque Larco football field in Les Cayes, in the south, for a second time to assess the possibility of building a stadium there. The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Civic Action said the move reflects the government's aim to provide a FIFA-standard venue allowing the Grenadiers and Grenadières to play at home. Dumas said ministry infrastructure experts will study the project's viability, amid growing enthusiasm following Haiti's qualification for the 2026 World Cup and its performance in the Concacaf Nations League. Due to gang violence, Haiti's team has played home matches abroad, including group-stage games in Jamaica, where it advanced to the quarterfinals. The Dominican Republic also barred Haiti from playing there this month after fan incidents at Santo Domingo's Estadio Félix Sánchez, where Haiti won 4-1.
