Haiti Launches First Industry Week, Betting on Sector Revival
Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé opened the inaugural Semaine de l'Industrie as the government pledges a strategic plan to revive domestic manufacturing.
Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé officially opened the first edition of the Semaine de l'Industrie (Industry Week) on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at the Hôtel Karibe, according to Le Nouvelliste. The event is organized around the theme "Toward the revitalization of the Haitian industrial sector." In the presence of Commerce and Industry Minister James Monazard, the head of government reaffirmed his administration's commitment to supporting the sector's recovery. He announced the implementation of a Strategic Industrial Policy Plan aimed at structuring supply chains, modernizing infrastructure and improving operating conditions for industry. The prime minister framed industrial revival as a means to reduce dependence on imports, add value to local resources and create jobs. Speaking earlier on Panel Magik on Wednesday, September 30, David Coles, president of the Association des Industries d'Haïti (ADIH), said industries create jobs and can help reduce import dependence, noting that 80% of local consumption comes from abroad. Coles described Industry Week as a space to promote national production and to discuss the obstacles facing Haitian industry. The ADIH holds a "Strategic Industrial Policy Plan 2026-2050," and Coles has stressed that security is essential for the revival of local industries, Le Nouvelliste reported.
