Haiti launches 'Cash Transfert-Education' to aid 140,000 vulnerable parents

Haiti's Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP) and the Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES) signed an agreement Tuesday to launch a program called 'Cash Transfert-Education,' according to Le Nouvelliste. The protocol was signed by MENFP head Vijonet Déméro and FAES Director General Kesner Romilus. According to the MENFP, the mechanism provides for an envelope of 2.5 billion gourdes intended for 140,000 parents of students at national, community, communal and presbyteral schools located in disadvantaged areas. Each beneficiary is set to receive 15,000 gourdes to help ease expenses tied to the start of the school year. The program's operations will be carried out by the FAES based on lists generated by the MENFP's SIGE system. The initiative is part of the ministry's broader preparations for the 2026-2027 academic year, which the MENFP says also include the opening of six lycées and nine training centers. The report did not specify a timeline for the disbursement of funds or additional eligibility criteria for beneficiaries.
