Haiti Fall 7-1 to Matildas in World Cup Tune-Up in France
Melchie Dumornay briefly equalised before Australia pulled away with five different goalscorers in Chambly.
Haiti's women's national team lost 7-1 to Australia's CommBank Matildas in an international friendly in Chambly, France, on Tuesday (Wednesday AEDT), according to The Age and matildas.com.au. The match featured five different Australian goalscorers as coach Joe Montemurro tested his squad's depth ahead of the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil. Midfielder Leticia McKenna scored a first-half brace in her first start, opening the scoring after just 80 seconds following a cutback from Clare Wheeler. Haitian star Melchie Dumornay responded to level the match before Australia regained control. The Matildas' other goals came via Caitlin Foord, Daniela Galic, Wheeler and Holly McNamara, along with an own goal by Haiti defender Kethna Louis, reporter Frances Howe wrote for The Age. Haiti, whose counterattack troubled Australia's defence in a timid first half, were overrun after the break as their 'wheels fell off,' the outlet reported. Australia came into the match off a 4-2 loss to Germany and were without Arsenal defender Steph Catley due to load management. Captain Sam Kerr featured despite earlier ankle soreness. The result is part of both sides' preparations for the 2027 World Cup.
