Haiti and CAF Sign Accord as Country Advances Membership in Development Bank

Haiti's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship (MAEC), Raina Forbin, signed an agreement on Monday, August 17, 2026, with Gianpiero Leoncini, executive vice-president of the Andean Development Corporation (CAF), also known as the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean, according to Le Nouvelliste. The accord covers immunities, exemptions and privileges between the Republic of Haiti and the CAF. According to the MAEC, the agreement will allow the CAF to carry out its activities on Haitian territory. The signing forms part of Haiti's process of joining the CAF as a shareholder member country. It follows the signing, on the same day, of a share subscription agreement by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Serge Gabriel Collin, on behalf of the Haitian state. The developments reflect Haiti's stated aim of drawing on the multilateral lender to finance long-term development projects, Le Nouvelliste reported. No figures on Haiti's shareholding or expected financing were disclosed in the report.
