Sixteen candidates have registered preliminarily for Haiti's presidential election with the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), according to HaitiLibre. Among them is former president Michel Joseph Martelly, running under the Debloke party, who has submitted all required documents after filing online on September 22, 2026. The CEP must still verify and validate the dossiers before publishing an official list, and candidates may register until the October 31, 2026 deadline. The provisional list includes Gary Bodeau (P.R.), Claude Joseph (EDE), Jean Ernest Muscadin (FCN), Jocelerme Privert (Ayiti Transforme), Wilson Jeudy (VAR) and others. Separately, HaitiLibre reported that Dominican President Luis Abinader said the Vatican expressed concern over Haiti's crisis during his meeting with Secretary of State Pietro Parolin, who questioned the feasibility of elections amid insecurity and political uncertainty. On October 19, Jack Christofides, special representative of the Gang Repression Force (FRG), is to brief the UN Security Council on force deployment and operational priorities. Other developments cited include a judicial planning session at BINUH on October 15 aimed at reducing prolonged pretrial detention, and a World Bank-funded DINEPA program to improve rural access to potable water in the Northeast.
