Haiti's Ministry of Agriculture (MARNDR) on Friday, October 9, 2026, officially launched the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area component of the second phase of the Multi-sectoral Food and Nutritional Security Program (PMSAN 2), according to haitilibre.com. The event, held at the premises of the National Coordination of Food Security (CNSA), was attended by EU Ambassador Hélène Roos, National Authorizing Officer of the European Development Fund Charles Jean-Jacques, and Expertise France Director in Haiti David Bruchon. The component is funded by the European Union to the tune of €4,000,000, supplemented by a MARNDR financing agreement of €254,280. Planned over three years, it aims to sustainably improve living conditions for vulnerable households in the West department, mainly targeting the Palmes region of Léogâne, Grand-Goâve and Petit-Goâve. The program seeks to support 15,000 families, or more than 60,000 direct beneficiaries, through strengthened agricultural production and better access to nutritious food. Planned activities include rehabilitating irrigation systems, acquiring equipment, installing greenhouses, developing poultry production, building a food quality control laboratory, and creating temporary jobs. Jean-Jacques also urged support for farmers in Kenscoff, severely affected by violence, noting the area 'feeds the capital every day.' Coordination will be handled by the Ministry in partnership with Expertise France.
