Dominican migration authorities detain 983 Haitians in irregular status, deport 872

The Dominican Republic's Dirección General de Migración (DGM) detained 983 Haitian nationals in irregular migratory status during intensified interdiction operations, according to a report published by elviajero.com.do. The figures come from a single-source account of an official DGM statement and are described as developing.

Of those detained, 741 were arrested directly by DGM brigades, while 242 were handed over by military and security bodies participating in joint surveillance operations, the report said. The operations spanned multiple provinces, including Greater Santo Domingo, where 90 people were detained in sectors such as Herrera, Villa Duarte and Cristo Rey.

In La Altagracia province, the country's main tourism destination, 50 undocumented migrants were detained across Higüey, La Otra Banda, Las Lagunas de Nisibón and the Verón-Bávaro tourist zone. Operations also extended to La Romana, San Pedro de Macorís, Santiago, Dajabón, Jimaní, Barahona and other localities.

The DGM said 872 foreign nationals were deported to Haiti through established border control points, adding that repatriations were carried out in accordance with the General Migration Law. The agency said the operations form part of a permanent government plan and will continue in coordination with the Armed Forces and National Police.
