Dominican authorities detain 983 Haitians in irregular status, deport 872

The Dominican Republic's Directorate General of Migration (DGM) detained 983 Haitian citizens in irregular migratory status during reinforced interdiction operations, according to a report published by elviajero.com.do. The account, based on official information, remains a single-source, developing story.
According to the report, 741 of those detained were arrested directly by DGM brigades, while 242 were handed over by military and security agencies participating in joint surveillance efforts. Operations spanned border provinces, tourist areas and major urban centers.
In Greater Santo Domingo, 90 people were reportedly detained during interventions in sectors including Herrera, Villa Duarte and Cristo Rey. In La Altagracia province, the country's main tourist destination, 50 undocumented migrants were detained across Higüey, the districts of La Otra Banda and Las Lagunas de Nisibón, and the Verón-Bávaro tourist zone. Operations also extended to La Romana and localities including San Pedro de Macorís, Santiago, Dajabón, Jimaní and Barahona.
As a result, the DGM said 872 foreigners were deported to Haiti through established border control points, adding that repatriations followed procedures set out in the General Migration Law. The agency said the operations are part of a permanent government plan and will continue in coordination with the Armed Forces and National Police.
