Court Order Keeps Haiti TPS Work Permits Valid Through July 24, USCIS Says
The agency's updated guidance follows nationwide rallies urging Congress to enact permanent protections for Temporary Protected Status holders.
Haitian immigrants with Temporary Protected Status may continue using certain work permits through July 24, 2026, after U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services updated its guidance Friday to reflect a federal court order keeping the program in place while a legal challenge continues, The Haitian Times reported. USCIS said the new guidance replaces an update issued July 1 and described the extension as limited relief until lower courts align with the U.S. Supreme Court's June 25 decision in Mullin v. Doe. The announcement came one day after immigrant advocates, TPS holders and faith leaders rallied in at least eight U.S. cities, urging Congress to pass legislation providing permanent legal status and a pathway to citizenship. According to USCIS, former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem determined, after reviewing conditions in Haiti and consulting other federal agencies, that the country no longer met statutory requirements for TPS. Haiti's TPS designation and related benefits had been scheduled to end Feb. 3, 2026. At a Miami rally held at the Little Haiti Cultural Complex, Santra Denis, president and founder of Avanse Ansanm, urged supporters to press lawmakers to support Senate Bill 4814. "Call your senators, email them, text them," Denis said, according to The Haitian Times.
