Cap-Haïtien customs agents trained to detect ozone-depleting substances

Customs agents in Cap-Haïtien received specialized training on the detection and control of ozone-depleting substances (SACO) during a two-day session held September 1 and 2, 2026, according to Le Nouvelliste. The program was organized by the National Ozone Bureau (Bureau national Ozone, BNO), which operates under Haiti's Ministry of the Environment. Carried out with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and in collaboration with the Cap-Haïtien customs office, the activity allowed more than 20 agents to strengthen their theoretical and practical knowledge of regulated substances, their detection and the fight against their illicit trade, the outlet reported. According to Le Nouvelliste, the training falls within the framework of Haiti's commitments under the Montreal Protocol and the Kigali Amendment, international agreements aimed at phasing out substances that damage the ozone layer. The initiative comes as the Cap-Haïtien airport expands operations, with the facility now reporting some 22,000 passengers per month.
