The Banque de la République d'Haïti (BRH) has warned clients of the financial system and the general public about an unprecedented rise in cyberattacks at both the regional and global levels over the past five years, according to Le Nouvelliste and Vant Bèf Info. In a notice dated October 19, 2026, the central bank said these attacks do not spare Haiti and particularly target its financial system. The BRH reminded institutions that no financial entity in the country is authorized to negotiate with cybercriminals in the event that attackers demand ransom payment following a cyberattack. The central bank said it has strengthened its cybersecurity actions since 2023, notably through staff training and awareness of threats. In the event of a computer incident, the BRH called on financial institutions to activate their contingency and business continuity plans, while taking the necessary steps to reinforce the robustness of their systems in line with the conclusions of the forensic analysis of the incident. It added that it monitors measures taken to protect clients' personal data and assets. The notice was signed by Governor Ronald Gabriel, according to Vant Bèf Info.
