NEW YORK — Haitian singer-songwriter BéLo performed songs spanning more than 20 years of his career at a sold-out Joe's Pub on the night of Oct. 14, singing about gratitude and resilience as he acknowledged the difficult times facing the community, The Haitian Times reported.

The audience joined him in singing familiar lyrics throughout the evening, turning the performance into an unprompted call-and-response, according to the outlet.

Musically, BéLo's sound has evolved from its twoubadou roots into a fusion that brings traditional Haitian rhythms into a broader musical style. Known for blending reggae, jazz, soul and traditional Haitian rhythms, BéLo has built a career around music that reflects Haiti's culture and social realities.

Singing primarily in Haitian Creole, he gained international recognition after winning the 2006 Prix Découvertes RFI. His songs often address social issues while expressing a strong connection to his homeland.

Rogers Burgers sponsored the concert for BéLo's return to New York City, The Haitian Times reported. Coverage, including photos and video, was provided by Bill Farrington for the outlet.
