American Airlines resumed flights to Haiti on Nov. 1, 2026, launching daily service between Miami and Cap-Haïtien International Airport (CAP), according to Aviation Week and Air Data News. Flight AA2492 departed Miami for Cap-Haïtien operated by Boeing 737-800 N957NN, with an all-Haitian, Creole-speaking crew led by Captain Oliver Jean. The regular route is scheduled to use the 737 MAX 8. The return restores U.S.-Haiti service for the first time since November 2024, when gunfire struck aircraft over Port-au-Prince. On Nov. 11, 2024, aircraft operated by American, JetBlue and Spirit were hit by ground-fired bullets near Toussaint Louverture International Airport (PAP); a Spirit Airbus A320 diverted to Santiago, Dominican Republic, with a flight attendant suffering minor injuries. The U.S. embassy cited "gang-led efforts to block travel" at the time. Cap-Haïtien, about 85 miles north of the capital, lies outside the area where the FAA still restricts U.S. civil aviation operations below 10,000 feet — a prohibition scheduled to remain until March 2, 2027. American noted CAP becomes its 100th destination in Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America, and immediately becomes the largest carrier at the airport with 2,408 two-way weekly seats, per OAG data. Port-au-Prince is currently served only by domestic carrier Sunrise Airways.
