American Airlines officially resumed operations in Haiti on Sunday, November 1, 2026, restoring daily service between Miami International Airport and Cap-Haïtien, according to Le Nouvelliste and the Antelope Valley Press (avpress.com). The inaugural flight was operated with an all-Haitian, Creole-speaking crew, avpress.com reported. Le Nouvelliste said the arrival of the inaugural flight at Cap-Haïtien's international airport capped months of work, institutional procedures and preparations involving government authorities, airport officials and representatives of the US carrier. According to avpress.com, the flight marked American's 100th destination in Latin America and the Caribbean, following its recent resumption of service to Venezuela. Haiti has been without regular service from a major international airline since late 2024, when gang gunfire over the capital prompted the Federal Aviation Administration to bar US commercial carriers from landing at Toussaint Louverture International Airport. Cap-Haïtien's smaller Hugo Chávez International Airport has since emerged as the country's main international gateway. American's Senior Vice President of MIA Operations, Juan Carlos Liscano, told the Miami Herald, "This is a very big step," noting the airline's history with Haiti dating to its first flight in 1971 and the vibrancy of South Florida's Haitian community.
