American Airlines officially resumed operations in Haiti on Sunday, November 1, 2026, restoring daily service between Miami International Airport and Cap-Haïtien's Hugo Chávez International Airport, according to Le Nouvelliste and the Antelope Valley Press. The inaugural flight, operated with an all-Haitian, Creole-speaking crew, followed several months of institutional work and preparations involving government authorities, airport officials and the carrier, Le Nouvelliste reported. The Antelope Valley Press, citing the Miami Herald, said the resumption makes American the first major US carrier to restore daily service since the suspensions to the capital. Haiti had been without regular service from a major international airline since late 2024, when gang gunfire in the skies over Port-au-Prince prompted the Federal Aviation Administration to prohibit US commercial carriers from landing at Toussaint Louverture International Airport. Cap-Haïtien, which was not covered by the ban, emerged as the country's new international gateway. The Miami flight also marked American's 100th destination in Latin America and the Caribbean. "This is a very big step," American's Senior Vice President of MIA Operations Juan Carlos Liscano told the Miami Herald, noting the airline's ties to Haiti date to its first flight there in 1971.
