American Airlines officially resumed operations in Haiti on Sunday, November 1, 2026, restoring daily service between Miami International Airport and Cap-Haïtien after a two-year interruption, according to Le Nouvelliste and the Antelope Valley Press. The inaugural flight, which operated with an all-Haitian, Creole-speaking crew, arrived at Cap-Haïtien's airport after what Le Nouvelliste described as several months of works, institutional procedures and preparations involving government authorities, airport officials and the airline's representatives. The flight marked American's 100th destination in Latin America and the Caribbean, following its recent resumption of service to Venezuela, the Antelope Valley Press reported. Haiti had been without regular service by a major international airline since late 2024, when gang gunfire over the capital prompted the Federal Aviation Administration to bar US commercial carriers from landing at Toussaint Louverture International Airport in Port-au-Prince. Cap-Haïtien, which was not covered by the ban, has since emerged as the country's main international gateway. Juan Carlos Liscano, American's Senior Vice President of MIA Operations, told the Miami Herald, "This is a very big step," adding that conditions "are looking very good." American first flew to Haiti in 1971, and the carrier cited its long history and ties to South Florida's Haitian community.
