American Airlines Relaunches Daily Flights to Haiti After Nearly Two-Year Pause
Carrier resumes nonstop Miami–Cap-Haitien service with Boeing 737 aircraft, citing deep US–Haiti ties.
American Airlines on Sunday restarted service to Haiti after a nearly two-year hiatus brought on by gang violence in and around Port-au-Prince, according to Airlines Geeks via Yahoo Travel and reporting from TravelPulse and NBC Miami. The carrier is now operating daily nonstop flights between Miami and Cap-Haitien, using Boeing 737 aircraft. The inaugural flight on Sunday was staffed by an all-Haitian, Creole-speaking crew, the airline said. "The connection between the United States and Haiti is incredibly meaningful, which is especially true in South Florida," American Senior Vice President of Miami Operations Juan Carlos Liscano said in a news release, adding that air service plays a critical role in linking the two communities. The resumption marks a notable step for travel to Haiti, where commercial aviation has been disrupted by instability centered on the capital. American's route targets Cap-Haitien in the country's north, rather than Port-au-Prince. Further details on frequency expansion or additional routes were not specified in the reports.
