Dominican President Luis Abinader on Saturday toured the border with Haiti alongside his Honduran counterpart, Nasry 'Tito' Asfura, where the Dominican Republic is building a wall to strengthen control over trafficking of migrants, drugs and weapons, according to EFE as reported by infobae.com and abc.com.py. During the visit, Asfura praised Dominican advances in border security and military industry, calling the country 'an example for Central America and the Caribbean,' per a statement from the Dominican Presidency. 'Sovereignty has no price, and sovereignty begins with protecting our borders,' Asfura said. Abinader said the visit aimed to share Dominican experience in security and border control, adding that his country's military industry is 'at the service of friends.' Dominican Defense Minister Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre said the 'Frontera Fuerte' strategy, launched in 2020, has produced roughly 55 kilometers of fence, including 38 kilometers on the northern border and stretches in Elías Piña, Independencia and Pedernales. The infrastructure includes 1,500 solar lights, fiber optics, smart cameras, a drone network and some 11,000 deployed troops. Asfura's official agenda continues Sunday with a Palacio Nacional reception, a bilateral meeting and the signing of cooperation instruments, EFE reported.
